A mile a day

This year has been pretty sporadic for me in terms of running.  I'll sit on my behind for a week or two and then randomly decide to go run 2 or 3 miles. Strange ... I know. When it comes to running and endurance, consistency is key and that's an aspect I've been lacking in a few areas of my life.  I'm always finding an excuse as to why I can't or don't have time.  So, today, I pledge to run a mile a day for the next week.  It's more about the commitment than the actual task.   Because when it comes down to it ... those 10 minutes I spend going through my Instagram newsfeed, I could be sweating it out on the pavement.  Anyone want to join in?

Wish me luck!

Product Review: Tre'Luxe

So ... remember in my last post I casually mentioned I was an almost reformed product junkie?!? Did you see the word almost?  Well I'm backsliding a little *hangs head* ... but I promise that this time it was worth it!  A cyber friend of mine recommended me to a lovely couple based out of Chicago who has started their own hair care line.  A few email exchanges later ... and BOOM!  More hair products show up my door!

The line: Tre'Luxe
The claim: "offering premium, botanically based products, a socially-conscious focus, and a new philosophy for translating internal beauty into external appeal"
Does it work?  Keep reading to find out!

Confessions of a Product Junkie

Hi!  My name is Lianne and I am a almost reformed Product Junkie.

So there, I've admitted my problem.  The next step is to purge and spring cleaning has been the perfect excuse for said purge.  So, on a whim, I pulled out ALL of the hair products that I've collected throughout the past few years.  And, yes, it is quite the collection.

To my surprise, I rediscovered some oldie's but goodie's (e.g. Jane Carter Solution curl defining cream) and decided to give other's the boot.

3 Strand Twist Out

I'll admit it ... I'm a #hairstylejunkie.  Hairstyling options for this curly head of mine are numerous and my addiction is real.  So when I came across the "3 strand twist out" on YouTube, I got the itch.  So I scratched it.

I did my 3 strand twists on old stretched hair.  For my styler, I used Camille Rose Naturals Aloe Whipped Butter Gel which gave me great definition and hold.  The twisting process takes longer than regular 2 strand twists but I think the end result is worth it if you have a some extra time.

And in my best Calhoun Tubbs voice (played by David Alan Grier on In Living Color)
'I made a video about it.  Like to watch it, here it go!'

'Thank you very much!'

And if you would like a tutorial on how to 3 strand twist, check out my previous video (and blog post)!

How to 3 strand twist

Hey y'all!  I recently attempted a 3 strand twist out on my natural hair and made a quick tutorial on YouTube on how to 3 strand twist.  The process can be a little complicated but definitely worth it ... shall I say #curlspoppin :)  I hope this tutorial is helpful and hop on over to my Instagram page to see the finished product.

Washed and Went

Hey y'all!  Since becoming natural, wash and go's have been the bain of my existence.  When I first became natural, I swore up and down that wash and go's would be my "go to" style.  *NOT!*   My curls don't clump, my hair gets dry, 2nd day hair is never attainable ... the list goes on and on.  BUT every once in a while I get the itch and I have to scratch it.  So yea, I diverted from my typical twist out and once again tried the wash and go.

What I used:
Shea Moisture's African Black Soap Deep Cleansing Shampoo
Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Conditioner
Shea Moisture's African Black Soap Purification Masque
100% pure Avocado Oil
Paul Mitchell The Conditioner Leave-in
Eden BodyWorks Curl Defining Creme'

What I did:
After shampooing and deep conditioning, I sectioned my hair into 8 sections and proceeded to apply my styling products in the following order: Paul Mitchell The Conditioner Leave-in, 100% pure Avocado Oil, and Eden BodyWorks Curl Defining Creme'. I smoothed each product through my hair using the pray and smooth method and allowed my hair to air dry.  I avoided touching my hair during the drying process to prevent frizz.  My curls were relatively defined and super soft.

What I would change:
I would use gel the next go-round to allow for a little more definition and hold.  My hair was GINORMOUS by the end of the day!  No 2nd day hair for me :(

If you are a more visual person, peep the YouTube video below:

*Anyone else have a similar experience with a style you keep going back to but just cannot master?

**Update: The OCD in me would not allow me FAIL yet again, so the next morning I hopped in the shower, soaked my hair with water and applied conditioner and Kiss My Face Upper Management Gel in sections.  I'm much happier today! Check my Instagram for the end result!
