DIY Lip Scrub

This dry weather has been wreaking havoc on my hair and skin, lips included.  When my lipstick began looking like caked on crayon (ewww), I knew it was time for some major exfoliation.  I searched high and low for a reasonably priced lip scrub in my area but I came up empty-handed.  And for some reason spending $10 (plus shipping) for the fancy ones online just did NOT appeal to me.  Coincidentally, after a little research, I found out the majority of lip scrubs are made from sugar, to exfoliate, and oil, for moisture.  So ... DIY to the rescue!  This super easy recipe took literally 3 minutes to make and cost me $0 dollars because the ingredients were already in my pantry.  Add in some cute packaging, and you've got super affordable and easy gifts for the holidays!

DIY Sugar Lip Scrub

INGREDIENTS
Sugar (regular, raw, or brown) 2 tbsp
Coconut Oil 1 tsp
Honey 1 tsp
... or you can just eyeball it :)

Mix all ingredients together until well blended (I use plastic so the mixture doesn't stick to the utensil)
Apply a small amount to your lips and scrub until the sugar dissolves completely
Gently wipe off with a paper towel or lick off the excess :)

* The solid coconut oil may not dissolve completely which is perfectly fine *

Do you have a favorite store bought lip scrub?  Let me know in the comments below!

  11. This is a great lip scrub! I recently heard about exfoliating your lips and I thought I would try it out since my lips get so dry and chapped that they peel a lot. It was a breeze to whip together because as you said, all the ingredients were already in my pantry. So awesome. My lips already feel so soft and moisturized. Thanks for sharing.

  13. You're the best! I saw lip scrubs from like $10- $24 online and thought those prices were a little crazy but I was also desperate to do something about these chapped lips and was very close to purchasing one. Then, I saw your posting and was like duhhhhh (to myself), of course there's a DIY lip scrub. Thanks so much for this :)

  16. The just love this scrub set, I just got the scrub tops and I'm relieved to be able to report that the material isn't thin or see through like so many whites are.

    1. As long as you keep it out of the sun and away from moisture it should last about a month. I keep mine in the medicine cabinet.

    1. not likely since the solid coconut oil helps to keep the ingredients together
